I first met Shannon during a virtual meeting of local Toronto women entrepreneurs. I can’t remember the topic but do remember clearly that Shannon handily won a dance-off for a gift prize. She’s a dynamo who loves music and loves to dance. Her happy energy is contagious! And she’s spreading the joy with this fun playlist - listen & enjoy!

Hi, I’m Shannon Currie, owner of Love, Shannon, and today’s DJ – DJ Lovesalot 🤷🏼♀️ 😂 ❤️
My best and earliest coffee memory is of my mother’s mug, which read Special Mom.
In the pre-dawn of a school day, I would sit at the kitchen table, my mother’s coffee mug clutched between my hands, the heat of the ceramic warming my palms, as she wove French braids into my hair.
Sitting at the table, I could hear my father’s morning shower upstairs and my siblings as they rummaged through dressers to get ready. They’d all be down soon, and the room’s energy would shift. But in a brief window of time each morning, it was just my mom and me.
When I think of those mornings, I can recall the smells of fresh coffee, buttered toast, and the faint floral fragrance of my mother’s hairbrush as it gripped its way through my pillow-matted locks. It is a total sensory encapsulation of childhood and the relationship with my mom.
As an adult who loves to rise early, my first groggy move is for the stovetop kettle and the French press. I cherish the first sip. Why is it the best of the day? I’ll never know – an inexplicable everyday mystery. But undeniably the experience of the first cup only comes once each day. It’s smell, its taste, the warmth in my hand. And the way it takes me back to our kitchen table, my mother and her fingers running through my hair. Each day, that first cup is unique again, special.
I am truly grateful for my Special Mom (as the mug promised 😉). She is an upbeat, funny soul and a natural cheerleader who goes out of her way to make people smile. So, I offer the same desire for you.
I hope this day brings you excitement, shows you kindness and allows you to reciprocate. I hope your day lets you dream, presents an unexpected path, and fuels you with the courage to bet on yourself. Finally, I hope today brings you joy, love, and the bravery to be exceptional.
And in being YOU today, it becomes a special day for others.
