Java Stop: organic African blend

city roast coffee from CONGO

We take you to Central Africa, to the Democratic Republic of Congo with our seasonal coffee: JAVA STOP.

This organic coffee is grown in the hills near Lake Kivu in eastern Congo. We call this a city roast - similar to the Ethiopian beans we put in our Road Trip blend.

Actually, we mix in a bit of those organic Ethiopian beans with the Congolese coffee to add a je ne sais quoi to Java Stop. A little more fruitiness? A bit of brightness? Yes - and a bit more complexity to tone down the amazing fruit bomb of the Congo beans on their own.

In fact, we mix in those Ethiopian beans with a lot of our blends because I LOVE Ethiopian coffee. If you’re an Ethiopian coffee fan, too, I wrote a blog post just for you: Ethiopia - 5 Facts You Should Know!

All Organic, City Roast (Medium-Light) Blend

You may have picked up on the fact that there aren’t any objective standards for coffee roast names and levels. One roaster’s “medium” is another roaster’s “dark”. Some roasters only do shades of burnt while others only do shades of light that taste more like tea than coffee.

At Sparkplug, we make our coffees for lovers of classic coffees that taste like coffee first, with hints of those more esoteric flavours.

Our city roast is a little on the lighter side of medium roast. We love a city roast because it brings out the special characteristics of the bean while still tasting like coffee. It’s a wonderful balance where you taste the nuances of the coffee and some toastiness from the roast.

Smooth Chocolate and Cherries

JAVA STOP has a silky mouthfeel. It makes me think of cherries and chocolate - kinda like a coffee version of that old school Cherry Blossom (remember those from when you were a kid? Fun fact - Cherry Blossom is a uniquely Canadian candy!)

RECOMMENDED BREWING METHODS:

I love JAVA STOP best made as a simple filter coffee - pour over, Chemex, even a straightforward automatic drip coffeemaker - any of these give a clean, easy drinking cup of coffee with no sediment that highlight the deliciousness of JAVA STOP.

JAVA STOP also makes a stellar espresso. Yum! And, of course, AeroPress is a good choice for ANY coffee, including this one.

Like any of our coffees, you can use JAVA STOP in any coffeemaker. These are just my favourite picks for this coffee.
